2013 – Top 5 brnrd.me Articles

The first full year for brnrd.me is over. A lot went on in 2013 – I’ve moved the blog across platforms (from WordPress to Medium, to Svbtle, then Ghost, then back to WordPress, because who am I kidding); I’ve redesigned it many a time (and I’ve finally found a design that I’m completely happy with, so I’m sticking to it).

Most importantly, I’ve written a fair bit, about a lot of interesting topics in social media and digital marketing, especially around my forte – analytics. So, to properly end the first year of brnrd.me, here are the top 5 posts (in terms of traffic) of 2013:

  1. Engagement Rate – out of Fanbase or out of Reach?
    • I sent this article to a few brands, including Simply Measured, Adobe, and mainly SocialBakers, who were strong advocates of their engagement rate out of fanbase. I was surprised to find out that my “Engagement Rate” article somehow influenced them to introduce engagement rate out of reach on their platform (read about it here).
  2. Engagement vs Consumption: the Facebook Dilemma
  3. Facebook EdgeRank is Dead – Now What?
  4. On Social Sentiment and Sentiment Analysis
  5. Reach, Audience and Impressions – on Twitter and Beyond

So, what’s in store for this year? More content, more analysis, more reviews and more guest posts on other blogs as well (which I shall link to on brnrd.me, of course).

Onwards and upwards…

HootSuite Challenge Day 9-10: #ThanksFor5

hootsuite

I took HootSuite through the hardest test on Tuesday – the Social Media London test. Now, I blog and live-tweet for Social Media London, the biggest Social Media meetup in London. The main tools I use when live-tweeting during this event are Tweetdeck and Tweetbot (although I later ditched Tweetbot for Tweetdeck, as it’s more light-weight in terms of memory it consumes. Because environment.). So, I picked up HootSuite as my weapon of choice, putting it under heavy use. As expected, I struggled a bit to begin with – detaching yourself, even momentarily, from a workflow you’re used to isn’t always easy and often takes time.

HootSuite Challenge Day 8: ‘Obrigado’

hootsuite

While writing the title for this post, I realised that this “10-day challenge” is soon coming to an end. Despite all the frustrations that I’ve had with HootSuite (the free version), it actually saddens me that this trial is coming to an end. (Not that I can’t use HootSuite after this trial…)

Hootsuite Challenge Day 5-7: Tough Love

hootsuite

I learned about a few new features within HootSuite, and I also realised that regardless of how frustrated the tool makes me at times (and by at times I mean oftentimes), there’s just so much that I haven’t tackled yet – while I’m familiar with the analytics that HootSuite provides, I haven’t reviewed that side yet. I’m sure I’ll cover it in the next how ever many days left in my 10 day trial.

Hootsuite Challenge Day 3-4: Can Anybody Tell Me…

hootsuite

I’m going to keep this short and sweet. I’ve said “why?” so many times both yesterday and today, mainly in front of Hootsuite Web instead of the app. I’ve been following and trying to live-tweet Socialbakers’ Engage 2013 event, while trying to work things out in Hootsuite. I’m going to start with the following: the mobile functions don’t always translate to the desktop version.

HootSuite Challenge Day 2: Seriously?

I called Day 1 “Frustration”. If I could define Day 2 of my Hootsuite challenge in one word, it would be “Seriously?”. (Question mark included.) Let me explain.

The HootSuite Challenge

Short version: I’m going to take a “HootSuite challenge” for 10 days, using HootSuite as my default Twitter app.
